Father's Day was simple and relaxing this year, just what the doctor ordered! My dad and Jake are hard working men that need this day of r&r!
It was extra special this year because I made a quick trip out to Clovis to bring beautiful white flowers to a dear friend's husbands resting place. I knew how extremely hard father's day would be for her and her boys and after putting myself in her shoes (or trying to) I knew I had to bring this daddy flowers and recognize and honor him since his family lives so far away. I knew it would mean a lot to his family because I know how much it means to us when our friends in WA bring flowers to Ryan on special days for us. It was a neat experience, standing on holy ground, reading his beautiful stone marker, in utter quietness, knowing he was aware and grateful, reflecting life and how fragile it is and how grateful I am for each day I have.
The kids and I got breakfast ready for Jake and we showered him with his little gifts in bed. Jonathon made him a cute picture frame with a picture of himself inside in his graduation outfit. He painted the front of the card with a portrait of Jake, which I love. He does such a detailed job; green eyes, dark spiked hair, with a big smile on his face. Inside the card his teacher had typed out his responses to "All about my dad"...
His Name is: Jake, he is: 30 years old, he weighs: 40 hundred pounds (haha- woah!), his hair color is: brown, his eyes are: green, his favorite TV show is: Basketball (mhmm), he likes to: go to work, his favorite food is: toasted bacon (did he mean toast and bacon?), for fun he likes to: play with me, his favorite drink is: orange juice (very true, drinks it by the gallon), my favorite thing about my dad is: I love him and I play with him. Love Jonathon ( he wrote his name so well too!)
I made Jake the cutest Father's Day book that was filled with wonderful memories of his fatherhood years from Jonathon to Ryan and now Caleb. We love looking through it, reminiscing.
After church my mom and I and my little brother made dinner for the dads, we made bacon cheeseburgers with all the fixings, sweet potato fries, baked bean dish, my Snicker's pie (of course!). For drinks we had different kinds of soda and put the cutest covers over the label called super pop, and for the nutritional facts it read, 100% hardworking, 100% handsome, 100% dependable, 100% hilarious, 100% intelligent and 100% caring. We invited my grandpa Ferguson, my Papa Ted and Grandma Helen and my Aunt Julie and Uncle Channing over too to join in the festivities.
My mom had put up cute centerpieces of pictures of the dads in red paper bags with flowers, and near my seat there was a picture of my dad and I on my wedding day in San Diego, and also one dancing at my reception in Fresno. It made me happy, even though my dad wasn't able to be inside the temple with me on that day, he was the first one I hugged when I came out and I am glad he was there and that we can go to the temple now. I am grateful for my dad in my life, there was a decade where things were very hard him, but never once have I forgotten the wonderful growing up years we had together and the years we have now and in the future. He always has the funniest things to say, he's very hard working, always made sure us kids were respectful to my mom, he's a fun grandpa to my boys, he's sensitive and quiet and would do anything for anyone.
I'm also grateful for Jake, my baby daddy ;) he is the best daddy. Although, he has been super busy and away from us lately with the new business, he is everything I ever wanted in a dad for my children. I remember when we were dating and I watched him with his nephews when I was visiting WA, and how I first recognized what an amazing dad he would be. They are so lucky to have his example and influence in their lives, now and forever.
We are grateful for Jake's dad too, Grandpa Bart. The boys miss him a lot. And although we might not see eye to eye about a lot of things, we are really grateful for all he did for us while we started out in WA and for allowing Jake to learn and grow in the family business, which supported our family those 6 years. I know Jake has learned so many great and valuable things from him. I also know that Father's Day must have been hard for him, without Zach there to give him a hug.
We hope all our dad friends out there had great days too and know how much we love and appreciate them!
