I can't believe my little boy turned six! I was okay with him turning five but six just seems so different to me. Six sounds "big boy!" The changes in Jonathon this past year have been so noticeable. He's really starting to learn how the world works and he's learning how to process it all. I know this next year will bring even greater changes in him because of starting Kindergarten. It really seems like yesterday my first baby was born. It was the most peaceful and perfect labor and delivery ever. I got an epidural at an 8, was only in labor a total of 9 hours. Pushed three times and out he came. I'll never forget how Jake put on this relaxing Jazz music as we talked and slept after my epidural. I remember hearing the music really calm my nerves when I pushed him out, and I remember the music as I snuggled my baby boy for hours after. I'm so grateful my first baby experience was perfect because the two boys following sure threw me some fast ones.
When Jonathon woke up on the day of his birthday, August 4th, he woke up
to some spiderwebs he had to break through to get downstairs and open
his first present :) His first present was the Amazing Spiderman outfit, which he loves and still wears everyday.
Afterwards we took him to the popular pancake breakfast place batter-up. My
family met us there and he ate a chocolate chip banana pancake and opened more Spiderman gifts from Grandma and
Grandpa.
Fun for him, his karate graduation was on the day of his birthday so we
headed there after breakfast and watched proudly as he received his
orange belt! This kid is getting so good at karate. The instructor moved
him up to the next class level called black belt training, and he's the
youngest and smallest one in the class. But he keeps up just fine and
loves it.
Our little spiderboy had his big Spiderman party at my parents the following Monday evening. We invited his schools friends, church friends, and extended family. It was so fun setting up his spiderman party that he had been anticipating for about six months, no joke! He is so in love with spiderman, and after seeing the Amazing Spiderman in the theater on a date night with daddy, it only intensified this obsession! We had Peter Parker Pizza for dinner and a Spiderman/Green Lizard ice cream cake for dessert. The kids swam in Granda's pool first, then we ate dinner, hit the pinata open, opened presents, sang happy birthday and sent the kids home with treat bags. We're so thankful for everyone who came out, it was really fun. The funniest parts were when Jake put on the green lizard mask Jonathon got as a gift and started chasing all the kids around the backyard. My brother put on Spiderman music over the stereo my parents have outside by the pool and Jonathon would run out and attack Jake like he was the real deal! It was so cute watching all the kids tackle Jake tot he ground. He's such a big kid himself sometimes :) The perfect ending to the evening is when Caleb got a hold of Grandpa's hose, turned it on and started spraying everyone haha!
Our main gift to Jonathon was Disneyland back in July but I wanted to make him something special and so my sister-in-law and I made him his own Superhero quilt! I'm so glad he loves it and takes it everywhere :)
I love my spiderboy so much!!!! Thank you Jonathon for first making me a mommy! Thank you for your humor, you're such a funny and outgoing boy. So full of excitement for life and passion in everything you do. Thank you for being the sunlight in my life everyday, especially when days in the past were gloomy. I don't know what I would have done without your hugs and laughter during those days. I'm so lucky to be the mom of such a smart, affectionate and talented boy. I love watching your imagination grow. I love the funny things you say. I love the way you love everything superhero, it's such a fun stage of life. I love playing with you, helping you, singing to you at night and telling you "pretend stories" where we get to escape to imaginary places together :) I so look forward to each year as you continue to grow, but like one book says, as long as I'm living my baby you'll be!
