Ashleigh's Funeral

We got back last night from UT. We drove down on Saturday for Jake's cousin Ashleigh's funeral. Ashleigh and Jake were close, they grew up in Georgia and in WA together, went to the same school, and her family even lived with Jake's family off and on for several years. There was no question if we would be there for the funeral or not. We will never forget and always cherish how family and friends traveled from different states as quickly as possible to meet Ryan before he passed and be there for us during that horrible time. And when we heard of Ashleigh's passing those memories were in our minds of how much it meant to us and our family. We are so glad we went.

Ashleigh was 28 years old and passed away on Sept. 28th. She has four of the most beautiful kids, all under 5! You can read her blog here. She died of stage four colon cancer.

It was a very hard weekend, a very tiring and long 14 hour trip, plus the emotional hardship of the passing of such a wonderful person has made Jake and I pretty exhausted lately. This is the first funeral we have been to since our son's, so the emotions that this weekend brought up were very hard and very strong. We were so grateful to be able to see Jake's extended family and I'm grateful I went, to support my husband and hold his hand through this weekend.
Here are some pictures below.

Ashleigh's twin boy's Alex and Lucas, 3 years old, helping carry their mommy's casket, this broke my heart.

Her four kids put their hand prints on her casket, wrote their names, and drew pictures for her, I loved this idea.
Jake and Jonathon saying good-bye
The cousins who were there: Brooke (Ashleigh's sister), Jake, David (Ashleigh's brother), cousin Annie, Joy (Jake's sister), cousin Jenny, and cousin Nikki.
Ashleigh we love you and will miss you so much! You will always be remembered and cherished. Until we meet again, take care of my little Ryan for me!

Hello. You don't know me, but through Ashleigh's obituary and blog, ultimately I found yours. I was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma August 11th and was heartbroken to see Ashleigh's obituary. I didn't know her, but we are the same age and both mothers with cancer. I am so sad that she passed away so young with such a beautiful family.
Also, through your page, I read about your baby that you lost last year. I cried my way through his blog that you made. What a sweet little spirit. And what a strong Mommy he has. I don't know how you do it! I know we are all only faced with the trials that we can handle, but you are such an inspiration. You and your family are beautiful. I hope you have a fabulous remainder of your pregnancy and that your third baby boy arrives healthy and strong with a spirit as sweet as Ryan's. God bless you and your family!
