First Day of Preschool!!!

The day officially arrived, our son had his first day of preschool today!! I can't believe it, what a day! How can he be in school already, honestly, someone tell me how he can be four and starting school? Why do I have a voice in the back of my head saying, "Welcome to this new chapter in life, get used to it, he only has 18 years left!" It's overwhelming when I look at it that way, all the school homework, projects, early mornings, etc.... but I know I need to just take it each year at a time, or each week actually. It's going to be a fun ride for Jake and I!

Jonathon was so excited this morning when he woke up, we got him ready way too early and when it was time to go he bolted for the car. He chatted all the way to his preschool, and his eyes grew the biggest I have ever seen them when he walked into the classroom. It was starting off great, until his cute teacher, Mrs. Spencer, asked him to come forward so she could show him where his cubby was, where to hang his jacket ... which he wouldn't take off out of nervousness (it was pouring today), where his name tag was, get a sticker, etc. At that moment he turned around from her and hid behind me. We both smiled at each other and she whispered to me that it was ok. He is the first child and naturally I knew he would react this way. Towards the middle of class during coloring time he started to warm up, leaving my side to play in the tree house, or look at the farm animals, train sets, art area, and even pretended to vacuum in the play house area. He warmed up to his teacher and listened very well. I was able to stay with him the whole day today, tomorrow is a different story. I drop him off and say bye! I know he might be sad, but he will adjust fast, it's just two hours, three days a week. It will probably be harder on me. He has two friends from church in his class that will help. It takes a lot of trust to send your precious little one to school. Thankfully my friends from church have kids who have had Mrs. Spencer and recommended her to us when we were searching. She is a member of our church, has been teaching for 19 years, and this pre-school is like a co-op preschool, where everyday we as parents take turns helping her in class. Last night at orientation she talked to all the parents about the daily schedule, field trips, rules, vip days, drop off and pick up and her mission. I like her a lot, very fun and very good with the kids. Her whole motto is building self confidence in the children. I love that, that's really the most important thing our children will need their whole lives as they venture off to school and go out into the world. Knowing who they are, what they stand for, and what the want.

My sweet handsome boy already for his first day!

Happy as can be!
